Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience
The Jurassic and Cretaceous' periods may have ended millennia ago, but that’s not stopping a major resurgence of interest in dinosaurs, as well as the presence of 17 skinned animatronic dinosaurs, at the Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience (RGDE), which is slated to open this July just outside of Cañon City, Colorado. The RGDE is Colorado’s newest and biggest dinosaur attraction, and it will feature a state-of-the-art, 16,200 square foot building, dynamic multimedia museum displays and exhibits, a life-size animatronic outdoor dinosaur park, a three-story-tall ropes course, a little kids’ ropes course and fossil dig, a fully stocked gift shop, free interactive tours, as well as a café that will serve light refreshments.
“My family and I are thrilled to open the Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience and share it with our visitors,” said Zach Reynolds, president and co-owner of the RGDE. “Our goal is to create a high-value, low-cost, family oriented museum that educates visitors while treating them to a dinosaur experience unlike anything else in Colorado.” The RGDE will be situated on U.S. Highway 50, just a 15-minute drive from downtown Cañon City and a 10-minute drive from the world-famous Royal Gorge.
According to Reynolds, the RGDE will house an impressive collection of full-scale dinosaur fossil casts, real fossils, and a fossil laboratory.
“The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience will offer fun and educational entertainment that’s focused on creating indelible family memories,” continued Reynolds. “Our properly is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, not far from the greater Garden Park Fossil Area, where many important fossils were unearthed starting in the 1870’s and continuing into present time.”
